So you’ve been thinking about starting a blog? You should absolutely go for it! Here’s why:

Well for starters, I am a firm believer that everyone has something valuable to share. We are each own walking our own path in life and confronting unique and interesting experiences. This means your take on something might be helpful to someone else going through something similar. So start a blog to create a community of people who share the same experiences.

A lot of things you read right now will tell you the market is saturated, but many more will say there’s always room for more! And even still, there might be hundreds of other bloggers out there but there’s only one you. No one else has done what you’ve done and can write like you write.

Don’t like to write? That’s okay!

I personally do this because I really enjoy writing, but if you don’t, that’s okay. You can still have a blog if you don’t like to write. You can write very minimally and lean quite heavily on pictures, especially if you’re a photographer or have an interest in fashion blogging. Plus this isn’t like normal writing. You aren’t writing an essay here, you can keep it as informal and casual as you want.

Potential for passive income

You probably shouldn’t start a blog because there is a potential for monetization, but you should definitely keep that in mind! There are always possibilities in things if you create them.

Bored? Restless?

Blogging is the perfect thing if you have a lot of pent up energy. I always find that getting out any creative ideas I have help me feel less restless. And it’s something you can do from anywhere at any time.

You’ve been thinking about it

If you’ve been thinking about starting your blog just do it! There are so many topics you can cover, and you aren’t limited to what’s already been done. Trust yourself and lean in to what you know.

Because it sounds like something fun

You don’t have to only do things that make you money or that bring you “success.” If any part of blogging sounds fun to you then just do it! Forget what other people say and go for it. If it’s sole purpose is to vent your feelings then so be it. Use it as a hobby. A lot of people aren’t encouraged to have hobbies anymore and that’s really a shame because hobbies help us decompress.

It might keep you accountable

Part of my reason for being here is accountability. I’m making a goal to write every single day. Whether it’s writing for my blog or on some creative work I’ve started, or starting something new entirely, I want to be in the practice of keeping the momentum and writing something whenever I have free time in the day. So having a blog is the perfect reason to keep writing because other people are there to see my successes and failures. Not that I think missing a day here and there are failures — everyone needs a break from time to time, but if I give up completely other people will see that and that’s a big fear of mine. Thus, accountability. This could work for writing, like me, or fitness or overall wellness. You could say being public about the things you are doing keeps you accountable because others are backing you and supporting you. You have people who want to see you succeed.

Practice makes perfect

If you are a writer, like me, and you want to hone your craft having an outlet like this can be huge. If you aren’t a writer or you think you’re no good at it and you want to improve your skills this is also perfect. It will give you a space to just write it all out, and if you’re brave there are plenty of people willing to give constructive feedback on your style, grammar, etc. No one is ever perfect, even the most widely published authors need editors. But this can help you break down the barriers of thinking you’re no good, and honestly the best way to find your writing voice is to just write a variety of things.
