Hi, I’m Courtney and this is my blog! I’m glad you’re here and I hope you’ll find something here you enjoy. If you’ve looked around a bit you might have some idea of who I am, but if not, allow me to introduce myself.
I like *a lot* of things. I mean, a lot! I am a writer (although I still struggle to avoid putting “aspiring” before that word). I write all sorts of things, but my first love will always be fiction! If you want to see some of what I’m working on check out my author website.
In college I discovered I have a passion and, dare I say, talent, for writing nonfiction and journalistically. I worked for SUNY Brockport’s student run newspaper, The Stylus, for 2 years.
I was an English major throughout most of college, though I started in a human services track and then switched to education and finally decided to follow my heart. So, I love reading and writing and I admit, I’m a pretty big nerd. I love to talk about pop culture and books, t.v. shows, movies, video games, you name it!
Because I have an interest in many things I have a little knowledge on quite a few subjects.
On here you might see me talk about a lot of things. I’m a hardcore feminist and I talk a lot about women’s health and women’s issues because knowledge equals freedom. I’m also likely to share home renovations I “DIY” at the house I live in with my husband, recipes and restaurants I love, marriage advice and how we managed a home as two college students, psychology and mental health as well as physical health, travel hacks I learn from making oh so many mistakes, and our latest adventure into parenthood. And so. much. more.
You might be wondering “why Cakes and Mistakes?” It’s a long story that involves my childhood dream of opening a bakery and a local building for sale and my husband’s suggestion of a bakery and bar called “Cakes & Mistakes.” Basically, it has become my life mantra because I LOVE cake and I make a lot of mistakes. Anytime something goes wrong I just shrug and say “cakes and mistakes.” It’s a silly little thing that reminds me to embrace the messy moments as much as the sweet ones.
Thanks for visiting my site and learning a bit more about me! If I get nothing else out of this experience I hope that what I say can reach someone and help them, even in the smallest of ways. Always feel free to reach out to me via social media with any questions, suggestions, or comments.
