Hi, I’m Courtney and this is my blog! I’m glad you’re here and I hope you’ll find something here you enjoy. If you’ve looked around a bit you might have some idea of who I am, but if not, allow me to introduce myself.
I like *a lot* of things. I mean, a lot! I am a writer (although I still struggle to avoid putting “aspiring” before that word). I write all sorts of things, but my first love will always be fiction! If you want to see some of what I’m working on check out my Wattpad.
In college I discovered I have a passion and, dare I say, talent, for writing nonfiction and journalistically. I worked for SUNY Brockport’s student run newspaper, The Stylus, for 2 years.
I was an English major throughout college (don’t be fooled, I started in a human services track and then switched to education and finally decided to follow my heart instead of my brain.) So, I love reading and writing and I admit, I’m a pretty big nerd. I love to talk about pop culture and books, t.v. shows, movies, video games, you name it!
Because I have an interest in many things I have a little knowledge on quite a few subjects. I randomly watched a YouTube lesson on astronomy and I’m trying to keep a nature journal to learn about local botany.
On here you might see me talk about a lot of things. Opinions I have on current issues, maybe a review of something I watched recently. I’m a hardcore feminist and I talk a lot about women’s health and women’s issues because knowledge equals freedom. I’m also likely to share home renovations I “DIY” at the house I live in with my husband, recipes and restaurants I love, marriage advice and how we managed a home as two college students, psychology and mental health as well as physical health, travel hacks I learn from making oh so many mistakes, and in the future, when I have little ones, I’ll share our adventures with them as well. And so. much. more.
And did I mention the cute pet pictures? We have 2 cats and 2 dogs and have been dreaming of starting a little homestead. I’m no professional photographer by any stretch. But, I do have a DSLR and I’m learning new ways to use it constantly. I’d love to share my photography growth with you all and tell the stories of the creatures and places I encounter.
You might be wondering “why Cakes and Mistakes?” It’s a long story that involves my childhood dream of opening a bakery and a local building for sale and my husband’s suggestion of a bakery and bar called “Cakes & Mistakes.” Basically, it has become my life mantra because I LOVE cake and I make a lot of mistakes. Anytime something goes wrong I just shrug and say “cakes and mistakes.” It’s a silly little thing that reminds me to embrace the messy moments as much as the sweet ones.
Thanks for visiting my site and learning a bit more about me! If I get nothing else out of this experience I hope that what I say can reach someone and help them, even in the smallest of ways. Always feel free to reach out to me via social media with any questions, suggestions, or comments.
